GeoPrivacy Survey
Background
This is a short survey to determine attitudes towards privacy on the
Net, particularly as regards to mobile devices.
A new generation of mobile devices will be equipped with positioning devices
able to pinpoint the device location. This geographic location may
be used to deliver a range of location-based services such as
location-sensitive search engines, localised news service, anti-theft
alarms and navigation aids. It may also be used to track peoples movements,
or to target consumers with promotional messages when they pass close
by a retail store or service.
The next generation of cellphones in the US will be equipped with
locating ability under the E911 program in order to give caller location
to emergency services. This location may also be used to deliver a range of location-based services.
